An 18th century chateau with its outbuildings overlooking its grasslands and its lake in some 20 ha of hills on the edge of a forest in Upper Beaujolais.
Between the Loire and Saône rivers, the Upper Beaujolais is a middle-mountain region that borders and looks down on a famous vineyard. The textile industry and farming coexisted for four centuries, durably marking the land as regards its landscapes and its way of living. Once renowned for its cotton blankets and its Toile-de-Vichy linen, Upper Beaujolais is currently developing new activities linked to green tourism.
An hour from Lyon via the A89 motorway, 1½ hours from a TGV train station with 2-hour links to Paris and 3-hour links toe Geneva.
This out-of-the-way property standing on a hill stretches over some 20 hectares of grasslands and forest. A long alleyway passes in front of a caretakers cottage and leads to the chateaus porch way. Said chateau dates from the 18th century and was extended in the 19th century. The stone outbuildings are set behind the chateau, delimiting a large closed courtyard. The main classical facade stands facing the Beaujolais hills. The parklands, spanning approx. two hectares, are completely enclosed by walls. Two 16th century towers, at each end of the moats, bear witness to an older past. A grassy area slopes gently down to a lake.
The chateauThis chateau spans two levels topped with an attic floor. The classical facade is rendered and symmetrical. The roof, featuring two shed dormers and red brick chimney stacks, is covered with new grey slate tiles. A second pink granite stone and brick building was adjoined to the rear of the original chateau in the 19th century.
Ground floor
The entrance door in the centre of the facade opens into a wide vestibule. The cement floor tiles have floral and acanthus leaf motifs. At the end, a superb wooden stairway goes up to the first floor. On either side and running the length of the building, another vestibule provides access to the rooms in the 19th century section.
On one side of the entrance hall are two reception lounges and, on the other, a dining room and an adjoining, communicating kitchen.
The dining room is decorated with wall panelling which goes with the diamond-shaped terracotta floor tiles. The grey marble fireplace, topped with its trumeau, elegantly matches the colours on the floor. In the adjoining kitchen, a Falcon cooking range brings modernity into an old area. The scullery has been preserved, out of sight. Nearby are a storeroom-linen room and a bathroom with a toilet.
The two lounges span a reception floor surface area of approx. 90 m². The smallest is warm and welcoming with its parquet flooring and its old fireplace. It communicates with the large lounge, the ceiling of which partially features exposed beams. It has a stone fireplace. Copious amounts of light flood in through the wide windows. A library and a ladies sitting room complete this level.

First floor
This floor comprises five large bedrooms with two bathrooms and a suite. Each bedroom has an old fireplace and superb parquet flooring.
The suite consists of a vast bedroom decorated with wall panelling, a fully fitted dressing room and a large bathroom with cement floor tiles. The wash-hand basins feature authentic gooseneck tap fittings. An additional separate toilet is on the landing, together with a door to the stairway leading up to the attic.

The attic space is illuminated via shed dormers. Its exposed roofing framework is in a good state of repair. The floor is covered with old terracotta tiles. This space could easily be converted to provide additional living space if required.
A basement with cellars is to be found under the chateau. This level is reached via a stairway going down from the entrance hall. It houses the boiler ...
