An old priory set between courtyard and garden in a delightful village in the Anjou region. In a village, with numerous residences and old houses, crossed by a navigable river. Five minutes from a character town with a racecourse and a prestigious national horse stud farm as well as all shops and amenities. Some twenty minutes from the town of Angers and its TGV train station providing 90-minute links to Paris with more than 10 return journeys per day. Ten or so minutes from a slip road on to the A11 motorway. The entrance gates open off of the street into a courtyard, at the end of which stands this priory. The courtyard features a well and an old manual water pump. A slate terrace runs alongside the rear facade, overlooking the lawned garden, planted with fruit trees and surrounded by a thick hedge. The prioryThis stone priory comprises a ground, a first and a second floor under rafters, covered with slate. On one side of the main facade stands an engaged round tower, topped with a candlesnuffer roof, as well as a small building containing the stairway which leads to the cellar, housing the boiler room. The framing surrounding the openings, the cornice and the roof dormer are constructed from freestone. A one-storey building adjoins the rear facade. Ground floor The entrance door, on the courtyard side, opens into a lounge with a French ceiling and a terracotta tile floor. It also features a freestone fireplace, decorated with pilasters and an entablature, an old potager (a secondary hearth where soups and other previously prepared dishes were cooked on embers), a slate sink and a recessed cupboard, built in two sections. It provides access to the tower, housing the spiral, slate and stone stairway which goes up to the first floor. It also provides access to a few slate steps going down to the kitchen. The kitchen, laid out on a level lower than the lounge, has terracotta floor tiles, exposed ceiling beams and an eating area. A door leads to a back kitchen and a toilet. The kitchen communicates directly with the terrace. First floor The stairway goes up to a landing which provides access to two bedrooms and a bathroom with a toilet. Both bedrooms, one of which is adorned with a freestone fireplace, have terracotta floor tiles and exposed ceiling beams. A straight stairway goes up from the landing to the second floor. Second floor The second floor landing leads to two bedrooms, one of which includes the tower attic. The beams of the roofing framework are exposed throughout this level.
